Police rescue 9-year-old boy, woman from icy pond

Caught on camera: Police rescue 9-year-old boy, woman from icy pond

we have *** person drowning drowning where *** 911 call sends officers during the roar apartment complex. We have *** nine year old that in the water and they’re not able to get out officer Andrew Soderlund answers the call. We’re driving there, You’re kind of playing that scenario through your head. What exactly are we going to see when we get there? Officer Sutherland and his partner jumped out and head right to the pond where the nine year old boy went into the icy water. Onlookers direct, the officers in the boy’s direction. The child fell in trying to get his football. Yet when the boy goes on the frozen pond, the ice cracks. By the time officers arrived, *** woman who tried saving the boy was also stuck. They were pretty far out there and obviously they weren’t making any way of getting closer to the shore. Officer Soderlund runs back to *** squad to grab this yellow rescue kit so I knew that hey, I’m not gonna be able to swim with the two other people that were in the water. He pulls out the rope and ties *** knot around his waist, then jumps in, you know that, that adrenaline dump that, that goes on in *** situation like that. I don’t remember the cold at all yet. The water is dangerously cold and he quickly learns it’s deep too. I originally started walking out. I was like, well this isn’t bad, I could stand up and then then it just dropped, that felt like there was no bottom. Now when officer Soderlund got to that retention pond, the first thing he did was take off his bulletproof vest because this would have weighed him down and he could not have gotten to the woman and kid. I wanted to be as light as possible once everyone’s out of the water, the chill hit Sutherland. One of my partners actually, he helped me unbutton my shirt because my fingers weren’t working. The officers, woman and nine year old all go to the hospital to get checked out. Thankfully everyone is safe. The boy’s mother credits Sutherland’s heroic actions and saving her son and I want to thank all the people who rescue him out there. I don’t really consider myself necessarily *** hero.
